3 Cabinet Types Explained

Thinking about  getting new cabinets but overwhelmed with all the options? There are three main types of cabinets — stock cabinets, semi-custom cabnets, and fully custom cabinets. Each type of cabinet has its pros and cons and today, our cabinet company at the Lake of the Ozarks would like to explain the difference!


Stock Cabinets 

Stock cabinets are ready-made cabinets that are preassembled using standard measurements and styles. They are typically mass-produced and made with lower-quality materials. Simply put, what you see is what you get! 

Pro: Cheapest type of cabinetry on the market. (However, keep in mind you get what you pay for, so it may not be a pro if you're thinking long-term.)

Con: You are limited in styles, shapes, colors, wood type, dimensions, etc. 

Semi-Custom Cabinets 

Semi-Custom cabinets are similar to stock cabinets but are generally better quality with some customizable details. You can choose details like types of wood, finishes, cabinet dimensions, cabinet accessories, and more!

Pro: You can choose custom details and design elements with having to pay the price for custom cabinets. 




Con: You can't always get everything you want in terms of styles, size, and wood types.


Fully-Custom Cabinets 

Custom cabinets are just like they sound - you get to pick out every single detail of your cabinet construction. The choices are endless and you can create basically anything that you can imagine. Custom cabinets are built to order and are built with top quality materials. 

Pro: You can design your cabinets exactly the way you want them with specific measurements to fit your space perfectly, the wood type, stain or paint color, and much more! 

Con: High price and it can take a long to make. They are not ideal for someone who is in a time crunch.
