6 Kitchen Island Options

Kitchen islands are a staple in today’s modern kitchens. Islands are great for adding additional countertop space, additional seating, more cabinet space, and so much more! If you’re considering a kitchen remodel, you may not realize the many options available for your kitchen island. Read on to learn more about kitchen island shapes!

#1 L-Shaped

L-Shaped islands are generally a larger shape and add a lot of extra storage. If you love to cook, an L-Shaped island is great for prep cooking and allowing plenty of space to have multiple people cooking in the kitchen.

On the flip side, a negative aspect of L-Shaped islands is it's not very conducive for open spaces. If you are looking for an open concept design, an L-Shaped island probably isn't for you.

#2 U-Shaped

U-Shaped islands are a dream for those of you who love cooking and entertaining. U-Shaped islands are extremely functional when it comes to storage space, workspace, and seating.

The biggest pitfall of a U-Shaped island is their size. If you don't have a large kitchen space, a U-Shaped island won't work well. Some homeowners also don't like corner cabinets because the storage is not the most user-friendly - a U-Shaped island has two corners.

#3 Galley

Galley islands are a popular choice for many kitchen designs. They are a great fit for an open concept kitchen. There are no corners on a galley which can help maximize your storage space. Galley islands are set up great for bar seating.

A disadvantage some homeowners find, is they think it's boring due to its simplicity.

#4 Furniture Style

A newer trend in kitchen design is to include a kitchen island that almost looks like another piece of furniture. Adding a furniture element to your kitchen island adds character and a nice decorative element which is why many homeowners are flocking to the idea

#5 Circular

A circular island can add a ton of personality to your kitchen! They offer plenty of prep space and seating. The circular island is perfect for someone who loves to entertain in the kitchen!

A downfall to tao a circular island is similar to an island with corners - you lose some storage from the layout.

#6 Double Island

A fairly newly trend is a double island! If you’re looking for more countertop space, a double island is an entertainers dream!

The downside to having a double island is it requires a larger space to accommodate both islands.
